CHAMPION PETFOODS – ACHESON PROCESSING PLANT

Edmonton is home to a global success story. Champion Petfood’s line of premium dog and cat food is sold in over 80 countries worldwide. CEL was the process electrical contractor on Champion’s 37,000 m2 food processing facility in Acheson, where Champion’s Orijen and Acana products are made.

Over 140,000 m of cable was installed, with wiring required for approximately 3,000 end devices. Due to the scale of the project and the fast-pace, CEL formed a team of specialists from our locations across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. At the peak, we had 75 electricians on-site. Processing equipment came from a variety of equipment vendors from several countries. CEL worked directly with these vendors to seamlessly integrate all equipment and ensure it met CSA code.

On builds of this complexity, where time is of the essence, efficiency is the difference between success and failure. To keep the project moving, CEL set up a dedicated prefabrication shop on site. This allowed us to quickly turn around the required electrical components in a timely manner.
