Joining the circle at Louise Dean School Family Fun Night

On February 28th, 2019, Louise Dean School held its Family Fun Night. CEL is a proud sponsor and supporter of this amazing school, which was created to allow and encourage young mothers and pregnant teens to complete their high school education.

Member of our Calgary staff generously volunteered their time to help out at this dinner for students and their families. This year’s theme was a celebration of indigenous culture and inclusion. Our team was invited to participate in an Indigenous Round Dance. The pulse of the drumming and joy of the dancers made it an unforgettable experience.

For CEL, it was a chance to meet the students and staff, and get a glimpse at the incredible work the school is doing. In addition to providing students with an opportunity to continue with their education, the school addresses challenges related to food security, affordable accommodations, managing a household and family, emergency financing and childcare support. By giving these young women a chance to be strong students and good mothers, Louise Dean School is changing lives.

As a follow up to the event, CEL field staff stepped up in a big way – making good on a promise to provide some creative mechanical toys for the children at the day care. Consisting of piping, doorknobs and other materials, these toys will allow the kids to use their imaginations. Who knows… it may inspire a future electrical contractor! Special thanks to Mark Harward for his efforts to lead this initiative on behalf of CEL.
