CITY OF CALGARY – BUS RAPID TRANSIT EXPANSION

To meet the needs of its growing population, the City of Calgary undertook a major expansion and update of its primary transit network, with the addition of four new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes. CEL was contracted by PCL Construction Ltd. to manage electrical services for all new BRT platforms and shelters. This involved 90 sites, city-wide, over an intensive three-year construction period.

CEL’s scope of work included signaling systems; security and communication devices; undergrounds; and service for all lighting, heating, signage and payment systems. It was a high-profile project with tight turnarounds, requiring the simultaneous deployment of several CEL crews across multiple sites.

The project showcased CEL’s ability to effectively coordinate with multiple partners to meet the complex needs of stakeholders and multiple construction partners. CEL efficiently managed traffic control and safety mitigation, and demonstrated our ability to successfully communicate with the public to minimize inconvenience and disruption. We took full advantage of our ability to coordinate efforts with our construction partners – allowing us to maximize efficiency at every turn and stop along the route.
